The Lux Series is an amazing, romantic 5 book series(+ novella) that you should absolutely read.

The order of the series is:

Prequel Novella) Shadows

Book 1) Obsidian

Book 2) Onyx

Book 3) Opal

Book 4) Origin

Book 5) Opposition

Book 6) Oblivion -> This has the first three books from Daemon's perspective.

Reasons why you should read this series: (I'm going to try and make this as spoiler-free as I can)

  1. The romance. JLA does a spectacular job of creating chemistry between our protagonist Katy Swartz and her neighbor Daemon Black and creating a swoon-worthy romantic story.

  2. Daemon Black. That's it. Daemon Black. If you need a tad more convincing: he is an alien; lives next door but he isn't the boy next door character; best friend's brother trope; a sort of enemies to lovers; forced proximity; etc.

  3. The banter between Daemon and Katy/Kat

  4. Amazing side characters

  5. Familial love

  6. Enemy Alien Races

  7. Cool Alien powers

  8. Sneaky(evil) government

  9. Great quotes and hilarious lines.

  10. There is an amazing Spin-off series. Read that as well.

  11. Going off of the previous one: Luc. The character Luc. He's amazing. I love him. He gets introduced in the middle of this series and is one of the main characters of the spin-off series.

I think that's all I'll be able to say without spoiling it. The character, Katy, does get a bit stubborn and annoying at times during the second book, but that's the only downside.

Earlier, during the list of reasons I made I said that there are hilarious lines and amazing quotes: here are a few I loved. You may skip if you want, but I don't think they hold too many spoilers in them.

I was having one of those days where I wanted to start throwing things because only breaking crap would make me feel better. -Onyx
"So you really think you'd do well in a zombie apocalypse?" "Yeppers," I said. "I'd totally save your butt." "Oh, really?" He glanced at the screen. Then he faded out and something... something else replaced him. Shrieking, I jerked into Dawson. "Oh my God..." (...) Zombie Daemon gave a rotted, toothy grin. "Save my butt? Yeah, I don't think so." -Opal
"Hey, Luc..." "Look what I got." He dug into his bag and pulled out an extraterrestrial highway shirt. "We can be soul twins now." "That's... um, really nice." Paris's lip curled. "Are you actually going to wear that shirt?" "Yeah, I am. Every day of my life. I think it's ironic." -Origin

I hope you liked those quotes because there are plenty more of them in the books. Those were some reasons why you should read this fun series. I can't count how many times I've reread it just to enjoy it all over again.

I recommend reading the series in order although you don't need to read the prequel novella to enjoy the series. It just takes place before the events of the first book, Obsidian, so it's recommended to read either before or after the first book.

The last thing I'm going to give is the description for the first book, Obsidian.

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

So if you find yourself in between books, you like these ideas and want to try something new and fun, I'd give this series a go. It isn't for everyone, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Bye!

Marina
